NEWARK – Newark Catholic High School student, Alexa Hess, is reinventing floristry. With the popularity of food and dessert trucks, Hess has found her way into the flower truck business. Appearing at local events and markets, shes sells fresh-cut flowers from her 1960’s Volkswagen truck. Hess’ interest in the mobile flower business began with a flower truck she saw in Nashville. In that moment, she decided she wanted to make buying flowers easy, enjoyable, and based in community events. “Lucca’s Flower Truck was just a dream to me but then it suddenly became a reality,” Hess said. “My family and I poured a lot of time and love into it and it has been such a learning experience for me, especially being 17 years old.” Alexa Hess arranges flowers for sale on her truck. (Photo: Submitted) Scouting Craigslist for a suitable and reasonably priced truck, Hess found one for sale in Chillicothe. She has since set up accounts with flower wholesalers, and has obtained a transient vendor license. The rest is history. “The community has shown me so much support and seeing smiles on everyone’s faces when they are at a sale really just makes everything worth it. It is so fulfilling to see a dream come true and be successful. I can’t wait to see what’s next,” she said. Alexa’s mother, Andrea Hess, adds, “People love seeing pretty flowers. Everybody’s made happier.” Lucca’s will make an appearance on Saturday, April 14 at the Country Greenhouse at 12161 Marne Rd in Newark. Additionally, on Friday, May 4, Lucca’s will be at the Vintage & Made Market in Lancaster and on Saturday, May 12 Lucca’s will appear at the Branches of Green Mother’s Day sale at 1015 Granville Rd in Newark.
